Better than SEX cake

I couldn't help myself.

I was talking about birthday cakes with a couple of friends and cakes that we could die for.

All of a sudden ~ I remembered how in Twentynine Palms I would wait in anticipation,
for one of my Marine Corps brothers to have his mom or his sister send him this cake!
Squeal!
(I most def did not squeal in the Corps...ahem)

With friends in high pursuit of this legendary cake, it became apparent that we all have our different taste in what we consider is Better than Sex... cake :)

When I asked my brother almost 12 years ago what his mom did that made it Better than Sex ~ he told me how she she used sweetened condensed milk, how she would make holes in the cake and put caramel and I want to say AND butterscotch (but I don't remember) over the top and then it would soak through out the cake.....
oooohhhhhhhhhhhh!

So I am THANKful for an awesomely resourceful friend that has an uncanny ability to find things like this
and I am thankFul for a Mom I never met!
This recipe (and picture) is brought to you by Megan's Cookin!

What a wonderful way to end the hot month of August ,
Then to make this our monthly cooking project with the kids :)

I mean is that wrong? Am I corrupting them too early?

Should I eat it all by myself because of its sinfully delicious nature?
or should I, for the sake of their innocence, when they ask me for the name of this cake - and oh they will, bat my eyes and say "I don't remember?"

Do you have magazines in the Home?

I have to confess, when someone goes door to door selling magazines - my heart goes out to them.  Usually there is a story about how they have traveled many miles and they are trying to earn some money for college or win a trip to Hawaii.  Sometimes I couldn't help but feel I was in the middle of someone's CON.

However, I've always been just a little more wary when a police buddy relayed to me the story where he happened to be home on his day off;
He happened to peek from his bedroom window,
and see that there was 2 guys (dressed nicely as they usually are)
- one in front of the door with a clipboard and a magazine brochure, and one off to the side with a baseball bat.  He came to the door with his gun, opened it about an inch, let them know he was not interested in whatever they were selling, and then instructed his accomplice and himself to vacate the premises....

Lesson #1:  Never bring a  knife (or in this case a baseball bat) to a gun fight.
Lesson #2: I now prefer to buy my magazines from HEB or other store racks and through Amway.

Yes I said Amway.

I remember as a kid getting Ranger Ricks, Highlights, and The Friend (Church publication)in the mail. How exciting! It was like getting an incredible present every month, and I would pour over each page with such intensity!

Last night I was watching on Netflix The Human Family Tree courtesy of National Geographic. It reminded me that I haven't picked up one of their magazines in a while.  I remembered how exciting and wonderful it was to learn about the world through National Geographic ~ The Pyramids! Current Events! Treatment of women throughout the world! Amazing animals!
I would like to say that I remembered some school teacher having highlighted them to me - but unfortunately most of the subjects are quickly introduced and others breezed by before its soon forgotten.
No, it was this memorable magazine that made that sparked my curiosity & made the most impression.

So I logged into my website, went to More Products and clicked on Partner Stores & Services and looked up Magazineline ~ and sure enough they carried them! (The deal they had was pretty good too & very straight forward, which means alot to me)
How wonderful it will be to share this treasure with my kids!
I am looking at incorporating the magazine into our home school studies.

I would love to hear your stories and ideas!
Which magazines are you familiar with or grew up with?
What story do you remember or how did they make you feel?
How do you use magazines? For school projects or crafts?

Whats Your Deal?

So My Super Hero is off and I've recuperated some what ~ I think
Mostly its accomplished by keeping busy.
I'm almost done with unpacking at our new place.  Its smaller than our last house, but def more manageable and way cheaper ~ although with the killer summer heat the electric bill could def make a run with my money.
Next project, tackling the "wall of memories" ~ all 12 boxes and making some sense of it.
On 2nd thought I really should put this gusto towards my homework.... maybe...

I was doing good pretty good until Yesterday.
Yesterday was our 2nd year Anniversary.  I thought I was gonna take myself out for dinner may Shoguns or the Edelweiss restaurant in Harker Heights.
Maybe see Cowboys and Aliens or the Planet of Apes prequel(?).
It didn't happened.
I didn't cry.
I just didn't want to pull myself together to go anywhere.
And
I didn't want to talk to anyone, well maybe just one person...
So I got on the computer & played until I was exhausted.
Ever had days like that?

On the other hand, Today is a whole new day!
